Chief Auwa of Igbaja was the Chief messenger of Elese in – Council. He was to pass all decisions to all ward (Angua) heads who were not part of the Council.

He was to control all the Ikolabas and Sobalojus and ensure that the Councils decisions reach their desired destinations. The Ikolabas under him are: - Ikolaba Okeso (Ajia), Ikolaba Aje (Aje), Ikolaba Ojumola, (Lasegba) and Ikolaba Ode (Oluodo) and Shobalojus.
All the Ikolabas were the messengers of Elese directly and in most cases through Chief Auwa depending on the action of the Elese in – Council and what the message was.
In the war front or in a long journey, Auwa was the Personal Attendant to Elese of Igbaja. In peace time, he was the accredited Representative of Elese and his Head Messenger.
